EN 10204 standard

The EN 10204 standard specifies the different types of inspection documents provided to the purchaser (in accordance with the requirements of the order) for the delivery of all metallic products. For example: plates, sheets, bars, forgings, castings. Regardless of their method of production. These document may also apply to non-metallic products.

EN 10204 standard: the basics.

The EN 10204 standard is used in conjunction with the product specifications which indicate the technical delivery conditions of the products.

The list of information that may be included in the inspection documents can be found in the appropriate documentation. For example, the ISO 3506 for corrosion-resistant stainless steel fasteners.

How to write the inspection documents? Non-specific inspection.

Inspection documents can be drafted in two ways:

BASED ON NON-SPECIFIC INSPECTION.

Inspection carried out by the manufacturer (in accordance with his own procedures) in order to determine if products (defined by the same product specification and made by the same manufacturing process) are or not in compliance with the requirements of the order.

NB: The products inspected are not necessarily the products actually supplied.
  • Declaration of compliance with the order “type 2.1”

Document in which the manufacturer declares that the products supplied are in compliance with the requirements of the order, without inclusion of test results.

  • Test report “type 2.2”

Document in which the manufacturer declares that the products supplied are in compliance with the requirements of the order and in which it supplies the test results based on non-specific inspection.

How to write the inspection documents? Non-specific inspection.

The second way of draft the inspection documents is the following:

BASED ON SPECIFIC INSPECTION.

Inspection on products to be supplied or on test units of which the products supplied are part, carried out before the delivery (according to the product specification), in order to verify that they are in compliance with the requirements of the order.

  • Inspection certificate 3.1 “type 3.1”

Document issued by the manufacturer in which it declares that the products supplied are in compliance with the requirements of the order and in which it supplies also test results.

The test unit and the tests to be carried out are defined by the product specification, by the official regulation and the corresponding rules and/or the order. The document is validated by the manufacturer’s authorized inspection representative, independent of the manufacturing department.

It must be possible for the manufacturer to transfer on the inspection certificate 3.1 all relevant test results obtained by specific inspection on primary or incoming products that uses. This is conditional on the manufacturer should apply traceability procedures and it can provide the corresponding inspection documents required.

  • Inspection certificate 3.2 “type 3.2”

Document prepared together by the manufacturer’s authorized inspection representative (independent of the manufacturing department) and the purchaser’s authorized inspection representative or the inspector designated by the official regulations. In these documents they declare that the products supplied are in compliance with the requirements of the order and in which the test results are supplied.

It must be possible for the manufacturer to transfer on the inspection certificate 3.2 all relevant test results obtained by specific inspection on primary or incoming products that uses. This is conditional on the manufacturer should apply traceability procedures and it can provide the corresponding inspection documents required.
