What’s the Recrystallization Process?

Posted on

Today we talk about the recrystallization process. It makes new not deformed hexagon socket set screw to replace the previous ones. Find out what this processi s and especially how it happens.

How does it happen?

How does the recrystallization process heppens? The temperature range in which you have the recrystallization is between 0.3 and 0.5 Tm (metal melting point), in absolute scale.

When plastic deformation is carried out:

  • over the recrystallization temperature is a hot working
  • under the recrystallization temperature is a cold working
  • interediate temperature is a warm working.

How do you determine the recrystallization temperature?

This type of temperature is the one where you get a complete recrystallization, in about an hour.

The processes are then raned according to homologous temperature = relationship between T (processing temperature) and Tm (melting point of the metal).

PROCESS T/Tm
Cold work < 0,3
Warm work From 0,3 to 0,5
Hot work >0,6

What are the technological differences of the components?

The components that are produced through the cold, hot or warm working have significantly differences.

Those hot work (compared with those cold) have:

  • a lower dimensional accuracy (due to uneven thermal expansion and contraction)
  • a worst surface finish (because of the oxide layer that develops durenig heating)

The plastic deformation to environmental T implies:

  • deformation of hexagon socket set screw and border of them
  • general increase of resistance
  • decrease in ductility

The cold plastic deformation, however, involves:

  • surface hardening
  • general increase of mechanical properties of metallic materials, especially in austenitc steels (work hardening)
