Why use stainless steel? Stainless steel is a durable building material, thanks to its resistance to corrosion and low maintenance that requires. How to ensure these features? Make sure you use the appropriate qualities and surface finishes.
How to choose the type of material?
Corrosion resistance of stainless steel is given by chrome and it is enhanced by nickel. In addition, the latter promotes the ductility and workability for cold plastic deformation. The addition of molybdenum increases the surface pitting in aggressive environments.
Austenitic stainless steel type AISI 316:
- Presence of chromium, nickel and molybdenum
- It is durable
- It is suitable for all outdoor applications
- Recommended for coastal areas or industrial (exposed)
Stainless steel type AISI 304:
- It is deprived of molybdenum
- It is suitable for outdoor applications in less critical
Ferritic stainless steel:
- It only contains chromium
- Suitable for interior use or decorative
Duplex stainless steel (alias austenitic-ferritic) has:
- has an elevate tensile characteristics
- has a corrosion resistance and formability
- It is used in the specifications for structural components
