Stainless steel cleats: what are them and what’re that for?

The posts are used to secure mooring lines, ropes, hawsers, or cables. Cleats are carefully manufactured and maintained to avoid any sharp edges which might chafe and weaken the mooring lines.

Mooring lines may be laid around the cleats either singly or with the friction against tension increasing with each successive turn. As a verb cleat means to take another turn increasing the friction to slow or adjust a mooring ship’s relative movement. The cleats can be made of different materials as metal, wood or stone.

Bowline knot is an ancient and simple knot used to form a fixed loop at the end of a rope. It has the virtues of being both easy to tie and untie; most notably, it is easy to untie after being subjected to a load. The bowline is sometimes referred as King of the knots because of its importance. It is one of the four basic maritime knots. While widely considered a reliable knot, when tied in certain materials or loading conditions it may not hold.

When used the fairleads?

A fairlead is a device to guide a line, rope or cable around an object, out of the way or to stop it from moving laterally. Typically, a fairlead will be a ring or hook. The fairlead may be a separate piece of hardware, or it could be a hole in the structure. A fairlead can also be used to stop a straight run of line from vibrating or rubbing on another surface. An additional use on boats is to keep a loose end of line from sliding around the deck.
