Ordinary Maintenance of Stainless Steel. How to Make It Better? – PART 1

This is the first of 2 posts dedicated to how to maintain your stainless steel surfaces. Here are some of the guidance of the Italian Association for the development of stainless steel.


The limescale.

To remove:

  • Deposits of limestone left by water we must be used

               – all-purpose cleaner with a soft rag

  • Thicker deposits

               – let it soak in a solution of hot water and ¼ vinegar.
               – then rinse with a solution of water and baking soda. After rinse with fresh water again. Finally, dry thoroughly.

 

 

Oil and grease stains.

To remove:

  • Ordinary stains

              – use a detergent in hot water. Rinse with clean water. Dry with a roll.

  • Stubborn stains

              – use ethyl alcohol, acetone or other halogenated solvent

 

The fingerprint.

To remove them, there are 2 alternatives:

  • A mild liquid detergent in water
  • Gently wipe with a soft roll (e.g. microfiber) and a glass cleaner.

By Flames glows.

To remove them you must use a roll with an all-purpose cleaner cream for household cleaning. Rinse in running water and then dry with a soft roll.

Coffee and thè glows.

To remove them just mixing baking soda in boiling water. Then soak it for 15 minutes.  And rinse it carefully and dry it with a soft roll.

 

 

Surface scratches.

Apply a detergent (or, alternatively, a polish) dedicated for stainless steel. Always use a soft roll.

 

Stubborn dirt and grease burned.

Use a roll with a all-purpose cleaner cream for household cleaning.

 

Rust stains (contamination).

To remove this type of stains you must apply a cleaner cream with a soft dampen roll and gently wipe it. If the stain persists, apply a passivating product (or flux) specific for stainless steel.
