A few days ago there was a very interesting technical question on our blog concerning rusted stainless steel AISI 304. The question was so interesting that we wanted to share it with you in this post.

The technical question: rusted stainless steel.

One of our users has AISI 304 stainless steel pool fence along the perimeter of the pool. The poles of this fences are geared, in particular, in an extremely porous marble. What is the problem? Systematically the poles in question does rust. And how do I remove it? Our user, then, asked if there is a product that doesn’t ruin the marble and at the same time take away the rust.

The reply of our technician.

Stainless steel AISI 304 is not ideal for swimming pools. The presence of hydrochloric acid and persistent humidity does not make it the most suitable choice. The stainless steel AISI 316 would be more suitable by the pool (it is also used in boats). This type of steel thanks to the addition of molybdenum, guarantees better protection. We recommend, therefore, to try a product as the Chemsearch’s Sparkle, that does not contain acids and should not attack marble. If rust stains persist, then, you need to remove the poles and proceed with an acid pickling (which surely would spoil the marble). In addition, you will need to use the Sparkle even for maintenance because in addition to remove the oxides that releases a protective film on the surface to prevent oxidation.

Thanks to our user who has enabled us to tackle a topic really useful.
