What is the turning?
Feed per revolution is the thread pitch. The tool bit is shaped with a profile that matches that of the thread. The tool advances by one step for each revolution of the work piece. Furthermore, the tool bit draws a cylindrical helix.
How do the threading on a lathe?
Threading on a lathe is never performed in a single pass. In fact, the tool repeats the same path of the previous pass. The movement of the lathe must be synchronized with the rotation of the mandrel of the lathe itself.
How to determine the number of passes to be performed?
It is necessary to take into account various factors such as:

- Stability of the machine and work piece.
Profile depth
Generally, the total depth of the thread profile is split into a number of passes with radial increments. Then, these are progressively reduced.
