Stainless steel AISI 304 and AISI 316 chains are a traction gear of various tipologies. The most common is formed by a sequence of mechanical rings bound to each other, allowing for maximum flexibility.
How are they made?
AISI 304 and AISI 316 chains may be all of the same size or different measures. They can either be open (closed on themselves) or closed (welded).
Generally, chains for nautical use are built with a poor galvanized steel hot. These chains are in fact immersed in a molten zinc tank, making the chains resistant to weather.
Types of nautical chains:
- Tested chain:
- used on board boats
- possessing calibrated chains (of a precise measurement) to fit precisely into the pulley of the maneuver.
- Long link chain and Genovese chain:
- used in ports as mooring chains.
Not nautical only
Chains are not employed exclusively for the nautical use; they can be utilized for urban design and the food, chemical or wine-making industries.
It is important to specify that our stainless steel AISI304 Genovese chain is not suitable neither for lifting or use in marine enviornment.
Another clarification: our stainless steel AISI 316 chain (calibrated) is of 50 grade, respecting the DIN 766 standard.
