Parallel keys. What kind of stainless steel have you to use?

One of the items included in our fasteners range are stainless steel parallel keys. What steel is used? This kind of product can be produced with different types of material. For example, the AISI 316 and AISI 316 Ti but not only.

What are the differences between AISI 316 and AISI 316 Ti?

What differentiates the stainless steel AISI 316 Ti (A5) from AISI 316 (A4)? The first one is stabilised by titanium. Adding this element is necessary in order to avoid carbide precipitation at temperatures between 450 °C and 800 °C.

What are the advantages of using this material? This very special characteristic of this material provides superior corrosion resistance to temperatures above. Compared to the most common AISI 316 and AISI 304, adding a percentage of titanium makes this corrosion resistant stainless steels in particular in welded areas (e.g. pitting).

This also in environments considered critical as those highly saline.

 

Is it better to buying parallel keys in A5 or A4?

As for austenitic, stainless steel A5 can be used to end applications requiring both a good formability that optimal corrosion resistance. Stainless steel AISI 316 Ti (A5) provides the same uses of AISI 316.

The stainless steel A5 make the parallel keys qualitatively better than those made of common AISI 316 (A4).

These valid qualitative charachteristics, make the tabs produced in this material particularly suitable for industrial uses. Especially in chemical and marine environments.
