In mechanics, hinges are the constraints enhance just twisting the constrained object. So, any possible translation of the latter is cut out. Indeed, the hinge connects two solid objects allowing only a limited angle of rotation between them. So, the two objects rotate relative to one another around a fixed axis of rotation. (nb: the latter is the geometrical axis of the hinge)
