Stainless steel AISI 304 and AISI 316 chains are a traction gear which may be of various types. The type of chain most commonly used is formed by a sequence of mechanical rings. These rings are bound to each other, allowing for maximum flexibility.
How are they made?
AISI 304 and AISI 316 chains may all be the same size or of different measures. Also, they can be of two types: opens (closed on themselves) or closed (welded).
Generally, for nautical use chains are built with a poor galvanized steel hot. In fact, this chains are immersed in a molten zinc tank, that will make the chains weathering resistance.
Type of nautical chains.
- Tested chain:
– used on board boats
– has the calibrated chains (of a precise measurement) precisely to fit to the pulley that the maneuver
- Long link chain and Genovese chain:
– used in ports as mooring chains.
Not nautical only.
Chains are not for the exclusive nautical use. In fact, they can also be used in urban fabric, food industry, chemical industry and wine making industry.
It’s important to specify that our stainless steel AISI 304 Genovese chain is not suitable either for lifting, or for use in marine environment.
Also, it’s required another clarification: our stainless steel AISI 316 chain (calibrated) has degree 50 and respects DIN 766 standard.
